Celebrating 50 years of our Jamaican offshore worker program!

September 26, 2016

The Smith family was awarded with the Order of Distinction of Jamaica in 2015. The was for the role our Grandfather played in initiating the development of Ontario’s offshore labour program in Jamaica. Our Grandfather, Harold Smith, was one of the first farmers to employ Jamaicans in Ontario. The award was presented by the Governor-General (His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Linton Allen) and the Prime Minister of Jamaica (The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller). We were honoured for the ‘invaluable opportunities provided through the Seasonal Agricultural Programme, since 1966’. On September 16, 2016 we celebrated 50 years of partnership with Jamaica. We acknowledged the hard work and dedication of our Jamaican employees. Many of whom have been coming to our farm for decades and some have even reached 40 years of farming with us. We consider our employees part of our family and our business would not be a success without them. We celebrated this occasion with our extended family and community in Vineland. We are proud of our community for supporting our employees and helping them while in Canada. Thank-you to all!
